Coleman’s Seafood Temple

When you think of the Seaside, you think of fish and chips! We’re lucky in that we live close enough tot the coast that we regularly visit and sometimes you want to mix it up.

That is where Coleman’s Seafood Temple comes in.

The restaurant

If you’ve driven to South Shields before, no doubt you’ve seen it. It’s the temple looking building that overlooks the sea. We’ve driven past many times but as a special treat for our anniversary we decided to book a table.

Coleman’s describe themselves a family orientated seafood restaurant, who use local produce when possible.

The restaurant is split into a bar and a food area but you can get food in the bar, which is useful especially one the busy summer days. It had a relaxed atmosphere with a nice calming presence.

The food

The menu has a good selection of seafood options to suit all tastes. For starters, we ordered Soufflé Arnold Bennett and Grilled Tiger Prawns.

Both of the starters were delicious. The soufflé was especially yummy, as it was something we’ve never tried before and the haddock taste really came through. The prawns were nice but the Mrs isn’t a big fan of having to deconstruct an animal to get the meat out.

For our main, we decided to share the Local Seafood Mixed Grill as we thought this would a nice way to experience different seafoods. There is the traditional fish and chips on the menu for the more traditionalists of us.

The mixed grill was great, we got to eat a wide range of different fishes that were caught by local fishermen. We added a bowl of chips to the side, which were thick and well fried.

Pricing

Overall, the price was what we would have expected for our choices in food. It is more pricey then just stopping at the chippy but when you’re wanting something different at the seaside, this is a great choice.

Would we go back?

We would definitely go back, even if just for the soufflé! It’s a nice place to go for a special occasion but I’m not sure we’d go after a day on the beach as it feels more formal.
